The Park & Feeding the Ducks
A bench in the sun, bread for the ducks, and time that isn’t rushed. The simplest outing is often the one that means the most.
Get Out & Live — Companion Outings & Activities
Life doesn’t stop at the front door. Let’s go enjoy it.
Too many of our seniors spend their days on the couch — not because they want to, but because no one is there to go with them. We change that. A caring companion to get your mom or dad out of the house — to the park to feed the ducks, a slow walk through the mall, lunch at a favorite spot, or just a scenic drive for an ice cream. And when getting out is hard, we bring the fun home.
Why This Matters
When the world shrinks to four walls, so does the spirit. A single afternoon out — sunshine, a familiar face, somewhere to go — can bring back a light you haven’t seen in your loved one for a while. That’s what this is really about: not the errand, but the joy. Not the destination, but the fact that someone came, and they didn’t have to go alone.
Out in the World
We come to you, and we head out together — at your loved one’s pace, on their good days. A few of the places a companion day can take you:
A bench in the sun, bread for the ducks, and time that isn’t rushed. The simplest outing is often the one that means the most.
Window shopping, a soft pretzel, people to watch, and gentle movement in cool air — an easy, no-pressure way to stretch the legs and lift the mood.
A favorite diner, a shared slice of pie, a real conversation over a warm cup. Getting out for a meal turns an ordinary Tuesday into something to look forward to.
A ride and a companion to Sunday service, a club meeting, the senior center, or a friend’s visit — staying connected to the community and faith that matter to them.
An ice cream cone, a drive past the old neighborhood, the orange groves in bloom. Sometimes the best medicine is a window down and somewhere pretty to look at.
A friendly companion along for a hair appointment, the salon or barber, the pharmacy, or the grocery store — so nothing feels like a chore, and no one goes it alone.
When Getting Out Is Hard
Some days — or some seasons of life — leaving the house just isn’t in the cards. That doesn’t mean the day has to be empty. A companion right there in the living room can turn a long, quiet afternoon into a good one:
Reading aloud from a favorite book, the newspaper, scripture, or old letters — a chapter a day, a voice in the room, and something to look forward to tomorrow.
Rummy, cribbage, checkers, dominoes, a friendly game of cards at the kitchen table. A little competition and a lot of laughing keeps the mind sharp and the heart light.
A jigsaw spread across the table over a week, a crossword worked together, a word game or two — gentle, satisfying, and wonderful for staying engaged.
The songs they courted to, a classic on the TV, a hymn or a big-band record. Music reaches memories nothing else can — and it’s always better shared.
Turning the pages of an old album, hearing the stories again, writing them down before they fade. We treasure the memories right alongside your family.
Cookies from the recipe card in her handwriting, tending the porch plants, a small craft or a video call with the grandkids — simple joys that make a house feel alive.
How a Companion Day Works
No contracts, no rigid schedules — just caring company, whenever it helps.
A quick, free chat about what your loved one enjoys — the places they love, the games they play, the things that make them light up.
Out for the afternoon or cozy at home, an hour or a whole day — we build it around their energy, their good times of day, and what they’re up for.
A friendly, familiar companion arrives at the door. Getting there is simply part of the companion visit — included in the hourly companion-care rate, so you don’t have to arrange a thing.
While they’re out enjoying life, you can breathe — knowing someone kind and attentive is right there with them the whole time.
Let’s Plan Something Good
Tell us a little about them — what they love, what they miss doing — and we’ll help make a good day happen. Same-day response, no pressure, and no cost to talk it through.
Get Out & Live is provided as part of Compassionate Choice’s non-medical companion and homemaker services. A companion accompanies your loved one throughout, and any transportation is included within the hourly companion-care rate — it is not offered or billed as a standalone transportation service. We do not provide nursing or medical care, medication administration, or hands-on personal care such as bathing, dressing, toileting, or transferring.
