You cannot pour from an empty cup
If you are the one who quietly handles everything — the meals, the medication reminders, the 2 a.m. worry — you already know how quickly caregiving fills every hour of the day. Many families in Lakeland come to us not because their loved one is in crisis, but because the caregiver is running on empty. Respite care is the answer to that. It is simply a warm, trustworthy companion stepping in for a while so you can step out — to sleep, to see the doctor yourself, to go to your grandchild's game, or to do nothing at all for once.
We are a non-medical companion and homemaker care service (AHCA Registration #241906). Respite means our companion keeps your loved one safe, engaged, and comfortable while you recharge. It does not mean nursing or medical treatment — but for the day-to-day presence, supervision, and gentle company that eats up a caregiver's every waking hour, it can be a lifeline.
Caring for the caregiver isn't selfish — it's how you last. Read our companion guide, Caring for the Caregiver, for real strategies to protect your own health while you care for someone else.
What a respite visit looks like
Every family is different, so we shape respite around your loved one's routine — not the other way around. During a visit, our companion might:
Keep good company
Conversation, cards, an old movie, a look through photo albums, or a walk around the block. Presence is the whole point.
Handle the day-to-day
Prepare a meal, tidy the kitchen, start a load of laundry, and gently offer medication reminders (we never administer medication).
Provide safe supervision
Watchful, calm attention — especially helpful for a loved one with dementia who shouldn't be alone.
Stay overnight
Overnight and 24-hour presence so you can finally get a full night's sleep, or leave town for a wedding or a weekend.
From a coffee break to a whole weekend
Respite care is meant to flex to your life. Some families book a standing few hours each week so the caregiver can keep a therapy appointment or a standing lunch with friends. Others need a full weekend a couple times a year, or coverage while they travel. And some call us during a stretch of recovery — say, when a loved one has just come home from Lakeland Regional Health Medical Center and the family needs an extra set of hands and eyes those first exhausting weeks.
You don't have to justify why you need the break. Even Florida's state RELIEF program (Respite for Elders Living in Everyday Families) exists precisely because the state recognizes that giving family caregivers regular relief is what keeps a loved one at home and out of a facility. We simply make that relief easy to arrange, on your schedule.
Proudly local to Lakeland and Polk County
We live and work here, and that matters. Our companions know the difference between getting to Lakeland Regional Health off Lakeland Hills Boulevard and the new Orlando Health Lakeland Highlands Hospital rising near the Polk Parkway. They know the neighborhoods, from Dixieland to Grasslands to South Lakeland. When a respite visit includes an errand or a ride to a check-up, you are trusting someone who genuinely knows the community your loved one calls home.
What respite care costs
Honest answer: it depends on how much relief you need. In-home companion care across Florida generally runs in a typical hourly range, with overnight and weekend blocks often arranged at flexible rates — but rather than quote a number that may not fit your situation, we would rather learn what you actually need and build a plan around it. There is never a charge to talk it through. And if you're weighing whether it's time to consider assisted living, our senior placement service is always 100% free to your family.
You deserve a break, and asking for one is a sign of a good caregiver — not a failing one. Let's find a rhythm that keeps both of you well.
